I'm currently dealing with the death of a close friend and mentor. His death was sudden, near the end of November. I thought I was dealing with it really really well but it turns out my reaction was just delayed. The grief I'm feeling is painful and I seem to be melting down more frequently. I'm not...

I am very sensitive to noise in general and as far as apartments go, not only do I hate hearing other people, I hate being heard by them too. I wear headphones constantly, at the computer or tv or if I want music. Right now I’m living in supportive housing and my living area is very small. I like ve...

I'm dealing with a lot of stress right now. Money is always a constant stress but my landlord is selling the house I live in and I'm forced to move. Rental prices keep going up and I'm not sure I'll find a place I can afford. I've had an application to get into supportive housing for 2 years but the...

There is also drag. Maybe you're interested in trying out a female identity as a sort of performance. I have friends who do drag and love it. In drag people are able to explore a feminine identity without committing to identifying as a woman full-time. I think gender performance is a fascinating sub...

different ways of living their lives, etc. If someone disagrees with all things genderqueer but wants to discuss it respectfully, I'm open to that, absolutely.. Except it's more than just a way of living our lives. It is who we are. And doesn't erasing someone's identity kind of preclude respectful...

I identified as transgender for quite some time, and medically transitioned to male with hormones. Early in transition I was obsessed with appearing male, but years have gone by and I've grown more comfortable with breaking convention. I realized that I was performing male in a similar way to how I ...

I had no speech delay but my mom was asked this during my diagnosis. She said just after I was a year old. I walked late though, around 2 years old, and I walked on my toes so badly that one of my achilles tendons is permanently shortened.

I changed my name several years ago. Everyone says my name is more me than the name I was given by my parents. So did I grow up destined to change my name to what I changed it to?

I'm not sure if you'd find it at a used book store since it's still pretty new, but I really enjoyed Neurotribes.

Hi Simon, yes I am still active in theatre. I've moved more in the direction of writing but I still act occasionally. I've learned how to use my quirks to my advantage and theatre is one place that actually accepts a bit of eccentricity. Improv training was really good for me, it got me used to thin...

Hello, I'm sorry if I can't offer much insight, I'm not an expert at ASD diagnosis, but reading how you feel in social situations - millions of thoughts going through your head that exhaust you still sounds like anxiety in my unprofessional opinion. You say you can easily socialize. Does it feel lik...

I got a text from my landlord this morning telling me someone was going to come by in a few hours to assess the house for his mortgage. I'm not one of those neat autistic people. My place was a mess. Legally he needs to give me 24 hours notice before he can come in but I couldn't say no. But already...

I think this is one of those things that has a wide range depending on the person. I have a two special interests that I've had since childhood, and then a couple of shorter-lived interests that come and go. When I go to the library I can browse the shelves and I might see one or two things that cou...

I always feel like my friends and even brief acquaintances remember more about my life and other people's lives than I do. I come across as uncaring because if you tell me something about your life, by the next conversation I won't remember, while other people remember things I've told them about my...
