I haven't read anything of Lucretius, tell me about him. I read about him in "The Swerve." He was a follower of Epicurus. He was an atheist in that he was indifferent to the gods. He believed religion was a superstition and things were created by atoms crashing into each other. those were...

Do you have favourite philosophers or writers? Socrates is an idol of mine; I love his moral steadfastness, humility and ability to perceive the most subtle of contradictions in arguments and beliefs. Socrates is really good at perceiving contradictions in arguments. That's what I like about him, b...

Hey everyone - I'm not sure if anyone has ever had this issue before, but it's really been bothering me. I was diagnosed recently (about 3 months now) and my parents seem to think that I was wrongly diagnosed, or that I don't really have it - even though a trained psychologist assessed me and said ...

I enjoy clever manipulation of words, or literal or unusual meanings if a different version of a homophone is understood (unintended by the speaker). I find these things truly funny, but nobody else does. Also, I find it funny when other people find things funny (even if I don't know why), because ...

welcome to wrong planet I myself also hold an interest in philosophy and other intellectual matters. Do you have favourite philosophers or writers? Socrates is an idol of mine; I love his moral steadfastness, humility and ability to perceive the most subtle of contradictions in arguments and beliefs.

Hello Tom. I am 25 and I work in a factory. I like jazz a lot and have played it here and there for about 13 years. I especially like the newer fusiony sounds like weather report and Herbie Hancock. I enjoy reading too. Mostly fiction. This is my first post on this website! Welcome. If you like fus...

Me too, what's caused your depression? I've been depressed because I have no friends, don't believe that I have a good future and have been rejected by someone that I cared very deeply (or at least I hope I did and that it wasn't a passing infatuation) about.

I feel it too. My interests in jazz, philosophy and literature make it very difficult to talk to people and I have no friends. Do you ever feel too cerebral and intellectual for your NT counterparts? Do you find that their conversations seem almost childlike in some ways and they seem content to li...

It's common knowledge that pianist Glenn Gould and the lead singer of the Vines both had Asperger's Syndrome, but can any of us think of any others? This topic occured to me after I read the wikipedia article on Tom Shear of the one man band Assemblage 23, who, although not diagnosed, seemed very m...
