I think the most pain came exactly from the fact that they were (somewhat forcefully) united. If the Turks didn't invade when they did, and your area of Bosnia was still Croatia to this day, I don't think many would have wanted to unite with the Serbs, Slovenes, Macedonians, or Montenegrins. it see...
