Being a bit pedantic, I just wanted to mention, OCD is an anxiety disorder. It's different to autism although you can definitely have both. Rituals and Routines in OCD are performed to neutralise intrusive, anxiety-provoking thoughts "obsessions". Not the case of coming home from work and...

Thank you for sharing that. That was a specific concern of mine. I'd rather deal with my symptoms than get zombified. Been there done that. Never again.

I'm currently on Guanfacine and Ritalin for ADHD. My neurologist wants me to try Abilify for Tourettes. I read up. Ritalin basically increases dopamine, and the Abilify acts as a partial agonist to the D2 receptors. It triggers a dopaminergic response, but weaker that that of dopamine. So depending ...

Oh dear... Here, read this . We do not lack empathy in the way most people think (emotional empathy). Many of us have more. In fact there are other studies that suggest empathy is not the problem, but ToM. Anyway ... you can care about other people and still be on the Spectrum! Good point, wolf. Hm...

The general reaction from my family after I got diagnosed was "well, that explains a lot" and then they kept on as things were, which is just fine with me. It was a relief to my mother. She told me "all these years I felt like I was just a failed parent". She tends to tell me mor...

I definitely do not have to worry about making too much eye contact. It's too uncomfortable. If I maintain it too long I end up suddenly looking away which I think is more noticeable that just not looking in the first place. My general strategy is to periodically check in with glances. Especially if...

I went to a small private catholic school k-8. There was no opportunity for it. The classrooms were all in the same short hallway. We went from class to class. There were no free periods. I always stayed inside during recess reading. I didn't really interact with the other kids. I was just a quiet k...

Interesting variety of experiences in the replies. I was insatiably curious myself but I satisfied it with reading. I read a LOT. Often a book every few days. I would stay up until 2 or 3 in the morning, even on school nights, reading because I couldn't sleep. I thought I was being sneaky. I found o...

I was pretty curious, and often frustrated in my explorations. I was very cautious about getting into trouble, and pretty reliable around known hazards, but the first time I saw a dust devil, around age 6, I'd have gotten right inside if I'd been able to, but backed off when getting pelted with peb...

That's from someone else's perspective versus your perspective from my perspective both of those things are true. I lack the fundamental understanding of danger but also am extremely curious. They look for one size fits all situations where there is none. Like ezras said it's more of a distinct pat...

It was in regards to physically exploring the world around them, not about information. I was searching "Autism curiosity". I found a fair number of things referring to lack of curiosity, but none about being extra curious to balance it out... which was curious to me :) Because I have alwa...

I've read kids on the Spectrum can seem to lack curiosity. I've also read they also lack caution, though I think it's meant to express the lack understanding of risk and danger. Those two things don't seem to go together. I would think if a child was very curious that might make them less cautious a...
